Trunyan - A Mysterious Tomb Village

The village of Trunyan is squeezed tightly between the lake and the outer crater rim of Batur, an almighty volcano in Kintamani. This is a Bali Aga village, inhabited by descendants of the original Balinese, the people who predate the arrival of the Hindu Majapahit kingdom in the 16th century. It is famous for the Pura Pancering Jagat temple, but unfortunately visitors are not allowed inside. There are also a couple of traditional Bali Aga-style dwellings, and a large banyan tree, which is said to be more than 1,100 years old. At Kuban sub-village close to Trunyan is a mysterious cemetery that is separated by the lake and accessible only by boat - there is no path along the steep walls of the crater rim.

The village of Trunyan itself is situated at the edge of Batur Lake. This location is inaccessible except by boat, and it takes around half an hour across the calm waters. Getting to Lake Batur takes around two hours drive to the northeast of Denpasar along the main road to Buleleng and through Bangli Regency.

Unlike the Balinese people, the people of Trunyan do not cremate or bury their dead, but just lay them out in bamboo cages to decompose, although strangely there is no stench. A macabre collection of skulls and bones lies on the stone platform and the surrounding areas. The dead bodies don't produce bad smells because of the perfumed scents from a huge Taru Menyan tree growing nearby. Taru means 'tree' and Menyan means 'nice smell'. The name of Terunyan was also derived from these two words. 

The women from Trunyan are prohibited from going to the cemetery when a dead body is carried there. This follows the deeply rooted belief that if a woman comes to the cemetery while a corpse is being carried there, there will be a disaster in the village, for example a landslide or a volcanic eruption. Such events have been frequent in the village's history, but whether women had anything to do with it is a matter of opinion...

You can visit both the village of Trunyan and the Kuban cemetery by chartered boat from Kedisan. Sadly, nowadays the boat trips are now blatant tourist traps, as touts and guides strongly urge you to donate your cash to the temple project or leave a donation for the dead. These touts ruin an otherwise fascinating experience.

Penglipuran - Unique Traditional Village

Penglipuran Village s a traditional tropical Balinese countryside village located in the Bangli region in the middle eastern area of the island of Bali. Bangli is famous for particularly hot food and has an excellent history of uncertainty and working the fields. Most of the local people of the area work on the land farming and culturing rice and other tropical spices and fruits. At over 700 meters above sea level the journey to get to Bangli is incredible and the views throughout are the relaxing including the rice padi plains and hills as you approach the mountains and then followed by the slow winding roads that lead you up the mountainside and which is coated in tropical trees and woodlands. Along the whole way you will pass little villages and temples of the traditional nature that offer a cultural dimension to the areas beautiful geography. At this height the incredible views of Bali are enjoyed at a lower and fresher climate then in the south of the island and extend across to the towing mountains and volcanoes as well as down the hillside and across the east of the Bali.

It is said that the area of Penglipuran Village takes it’s name from the word ‘Pengeling Pura, which translates roughly as remember your ancestors although another school of though is that the word Penglipur meaning ‘entertainer’ is the origin from which the Penglipuran Village has derived as past kings of the ancient times have been known to retire to the area when in need of some time out from their duties and when in need of cheering up when upset and had royal entertainers based in the area for this reason. Either way it he area is both beautiful and entertaining to this day and well worth an excursion when staying in the Ubud area or if planning a trip around the mountain areas.

The residential areas of Penglipuran Village have a very particular look that is unique to the area and extremely aesthetically pleasing with rows of very small but tall traditionally built houses that are very decorative and with thatched roofs. These roads are straight and within the field areas meaning there is a tropical country feels as well as being very culturally interesting. All of these roads are inline with the direction of the mount Agung, which is the most holy peak and one of the most holy places on the entire island. This gives a lovely effect and also extenuates the impressive grandeur of Bali’s largest peak. These cobbled roads sharing their direction with the family temples that can be found in the gardens also facing mount Agung as with the rest of the island the mountain is very important to the culture. In Penglipuran Village its importance is even stronger which is not surprising as it is likely that the villagers’ ancestors where the people who have suffered the most from the eruptions that have taken place in the past. This being said, there has not been an eruption for many years and although the peak is still deemed as active, another eruption is not expected for a long time.

Kintamani

Kintamani is the most favorite tourist destinations in Bali with the active volcano of mount Batur and beautiful lake. Kintamani is surrounded by the captivating nature and there are six ancient villages around cauldron of Batur Lake which is often conceived by Bali Age Village. The local people from these Bali Age villages own the unique cultures, houses and life style. Kintamani Area is consisted of some Villages those are Kedisan Village , Buahan, Abang, Trunyan, Songan, South Batur, Middle Batur, North Batur, Sukawana and Kintamani Village . The total of resident in these area are about 15 thousand who are mostly working as farmer, merchant, or work at industrial tourism.

Kintamani is beautifully seen at the day time around 10:00 am until 15:00 pm especially having fine weather where entire Kintamani area will be able to be seen clearly. Generally, all tourists who pay a visit to this place will arrive in the day time where they can enjoy the panorama or enjoy the lunch in the local restaurant with lake view. Mostly restaurants at Kintamani generally own very beautiful view where tourist merging into their lunch in this restaurant and meanwhile enjoy the panorama.

In Kintamani you will found The Kintamani dog. The Kintamani is a dog native to the Indonesian island of Bali. It a popular pet for the Balinese and locally Bali's only official breed and efforts are currently under way to have the dog accepted by the Federation Cynologique Internationale as a recognized breed. It is an evolving breed indigenous to the Kintamani region which evolved from the local Bali street dogs, which are rather a feral random-bred landrace distinctive to Bali.

Tegallalang

Tegallalang attractions located in north Ubud about 20 minutes drive. The area is famous for its tourist attraction beautiful terraced rice fields, many tourists who travel to and from Kintamani stop in this place to witness the scenic beauty of the verdant terraced rice fields, or lunch at the restaurant while enjoying the beautiful views of terraced rice fields.

Ubud

Nonetheless, Ubud is still popular with backpackers, mystics and all the finest fringe elements of global society. Ubud is not "ruined". Its character is too strong to be destroyed. It still draws people who add something; people who are actively involved in art, nature, anthropology, music, dance, architecture, environmentalism, "alternative modalities," and more.

Ubud is arguably the best place to use as a base if you're visiting Bali; if you're looking for culture, comfort, nature and inspiration. Ubud is surrounded by most of the things that bring people to Bali -- scenic rice fields, small villages, art and craft communities, ancient temples, palaces, rivers, cheap accommodation and unique luxury hotels. And it's central location makes it easy to get from Ubud to the mountains, beaches, and major towns.

Bedugul

Bedugul is a tourist attraction in Bali which is located in a mountainous area that has the atmosphere cool and comfortable, can enjoy the beauty of the lake and Ulun Danu Beratan, located in the village of Candi Kuning, Baturiti District, Tabanan. The distance is approximately 70 miles from the tourist areas of Kuta / Airport Ngurah Rai. Buildings located in Bedugul tourist area is a building tempo and somewhat old-fashioned, but all physical objectstill clean and neatly arranged.

Located in the highlands, causing the place is very cool and sometimes in the blanket fog, the natural beauty of the mountains and Lake Beratan is clean, in the middle there is a Ulun Danu temple which is a shrine to the Goddess Danu Sang Hyang as the giver of fertility, would be a pity all if the miss.

Travelers can enjoy a relaxing time with a walk, rent a boat, many tourists visit here during the holiday season. There in Bedugul Botanical Gardens which is one of them in Bali, various types of fruits fruits and vegetables thrive in this area. Locals sell their garden in the local market and also sold to other areas in Bali.

Here also prepared boats or canoes are rented for tourist to better enjoy the beauty of Lake Beratan. In tourist areas there are small stalls for souvenirs for the family.

Jatiluwih Rice Terrace

Jatiluwih is a favorite tourist destination in Bali famous with the beautiful rice terrace unfolding from the foot of mountain until the coastal side. It is one of places to visit in Bali with the beautiful view as according to its name from Jati and luwih, where Jati mean really and Luwih meaning especial, good, and beautiful or the equivalent. The local paddies are planted in this place look typically of the high relative size plant if it is compared with other pre-eminent paddy planted by most farmers in Bali . Despite-fully, Jatiluwih also famous with its organic agriculture system due to the location is located in the in the plateau of Watukaru Mount which is suitable for the agriculture development. 

Jatiluwih is surrounded by cool atmosphere because it is located in the height of 700 meters above sea level. The distance from Denpasar to Jatiluwih is about 48 km and it is situated in upstate of Tabanan town (28 Km). The road to this place has been progressively improved so that motor vehicle can enter from east side through Pacung Village and go to Jatiluwih and also from the west side from Watukaru Temple pass to Jatiluwih. Jatiluwih is many visited by tourist from local and foreign countries who want to enjoy the cold atmosphere and beautiful panorama of rice terrace. Jatiluwih as a nature tourist destination in Bali which has been recognized since Dutch colonial build the Security Headquarter and until now the local residents conceives with the Dutch Tangs. Indonesian government has assigned the Jatiluwih to be a Tourist Destination Village because of this potency.
